About FreeUpscaler
FreeUpscaler is a free AI image and video upscaler that runs entirely in your web browser. Unlike traditional online upscalers that upload your files to remote servers before returning a result, FreeUpscaler processes every file locally on your own device. Your photos and clips are never sent to us, never written to a server disk, and never reviewed by a human. The AI itself runs in your browser using your device's graphics hardware, so there is nothing for us to see even if we wanted to.
Why we built it
Almost every free upscaler on the web asks you to upload your files to a stranger's server, waits for a queue, stamps a watermark on the output, and then pushes you toward a paid plan for anything larger than a thumbnail. That model exists because the AI is expensive to run on a server, not because it has to work that way. Modern browsers can run the same AI locally — for free — and the result is a tool that respects your files, your time, and your bandwidth.
We also believe that a tool this simple should stay simple. You drop a file, pick 2× or 4×, and you get a result. No account, no newsletter, no upsell. The homepage is the product.
How it works
When you first upscale, a small AI is downloaded once and cached in your browser. After that, upscaling is near-instant to start — even offline. Everything is optimized to run efficiently on your device's graphics hardware. For video, we stream frames through the AI one at a time and re-encode the result on your device using modern browser media APIs. Audio is copied through unchanged, so there is no quality loss on the audio track.
Because every computation happens on your machine, there is no server cost to cover. That's why FreeUpscaler is — and will remain — completely free. No premium tiers, no usage limits, no watermarks, no hidden fees. The site is supported by unobtrusive display advertising; that is all.
What to expect
Real AI upscaling takes time, especially for video. A short clip can take several minutes on a mid-range laptop, and longer clips proportionally longer. We show an honest progress bar and time estimate based on your device so you can decide whether to wait. If your browser doesn't support the modern graphics APIs required for the best results, the image tab falls back to a high-quality non-AI enlargement so you always get something usable.
Your privacy
Your files are processed on your device, by your browser, using your hardware. No data is transmitted to any server during upscaling. We don't track which files you process or what results you get. Read the full details in our Privacy Policy.
